原创——托福不理想,拿什么来取代?

进入申请高峰期,最近很多学生都在匆忙选校,经常遇到一些美高的学生表示学校三天两头考试,TOEFLSAT/ACT来不及同时准备,想通过SAT/ACT的单项成绩免除托福,这边查询了一些学校,以及录取数据,想和大家分享下。

 

1. Penn. State

If you are providing proof of English proficiency based on one of the test scores listed below, please note that the score reports must be official and come to Undergraduate Admissions directly from the testing service. The scores must be less than two years old. The following are ways in which you can satisfy the language proficiency requirement:

  • TOEFL: A minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet-based TOEFL or 550 on the paper exam (code #2660)
  • IELTS: A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 on the academic test
  • SAT: Score of 530 or higher on the critical reading section (code #2660)
  • ACT: Score of 24 or higher on the English section (code #3656)
  • IGCSE: Score of A, B, or C on the English language exam
  • International Baccalaureate (IB): Score of 5 or higher on the English Language & Literature (SL/HL) exam
  • U.S. College or University: Completed two years of full-time academic coursework at a U.S. college or university and have a grade of C (2.0) or higher in a standard English composition course
  • IECP: Receive official certification through Penn State's Intensive English Communication Program (IECP)

An official report of TOEFL, IELTS, or MELAB scores must be sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the testing agency (from one set of exam results).

Freshman applicants may be exempt from the total score requirement if they have:

  • Scored 430 or greater on the SAT critical reading (verbal) section; or
  • Scored 18 or higher on the ACT exam on the English AND Reading sections.

Additionally, a student may be exempt from the writing subscore requirement if they have:

  • Score greater than 470 on the SAT writing; or
  • Scored greater than 20 on the ACT writing

IU requires scores from either the SAT or the ACT. Preference will be given to international students who score above the U.S. national average. The middle 50 percent range of SAT scores for admitted freshmen is typically 1110–1290, and the middle 50 percent range of ACT scores is typically 25–31.

 

5. Michigan State U

Minimum TOEFL Score Requirements for Admission

  • Internet-based test (iBT): 80 with no subscore lower than 17
  • Paper-based test (PBT): 530

English Proficiency Evaluation—Admitted students will also need to take an on-campus English Proficiency Evaluation unless they have a TOEFL score of 100 or higher on the iBT or 600 or higher on the PBT.

Alternatives to the TOEFL (ACT, SAT, IELTS, PTE)—Minimum Score Requirements

  • An ACT English subscore of 21
  • An SAT Critical Reading score of 540
  • An IELTS (International English Language Testing System) total score of 6.5, with no subscore lower than 6.0
  • A Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 53 with no sub-scores lower than 47

Required English Proficiency Evaluation—Admitted students who submit ACT, SAT, IELTS, and PTE scores instead of TOEFL scores will be  required to take an on-campus English Proficiency Evaluation.
